Everyone is different, and that’s what makes us special. As a cosmetic dentist, I’ve talked with many patients about their ideal smile. For the most part, people consider a perfect smile one that’s white, straight, and has good symmetry. Too much gums showing can be unattractive, as can teeth that are too short or oversized. A nice, straight edge – no pointy teeth – is preferable. But even with these parameters, a smile makeover should allow you to retain your uniqueness.
In Hollywood, cosmetic dentistry has a stronghold. It seems that everyone gets veneers, teeth whitening, and full smile makeovers. Just Google old photos of some of your favorite stars, and you’ll see what I mean. Tom Cruise, Nicholas Cage, Hillary Duff, Halle Barry, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, Kate Beckinsale, Cindy Crawford, and Heidi Klum have had smile makeovers – and the list goes on and on. But each of their smiles is uniquely theirs.
Today, the dentists to the stars, and other savvy cosmetic dentists, will recommend slightly rotating a porcelain veneer, leaving a small gap between front teeth, or not bleaching teeth to the optimal shade of white. The main thing is, you need your smile makeover to be “perfect” to YOU.
