What Constitutes Great Cosmetic Dentistry?

Great, as defined by Dictionary.com, means first rate, being of notable degree, remarkable, outstanding, of extraordinary powers, skillful, and having unusual merit. So when it comes to cosmetic dentistry, how can a patient know what they’re looking for – how can they know the criteria for greatness?

The American Dental Association does not count “cosmetic dentistry” as a true specialty. Any general dentist can claim to be a cosmetic dentist, and no special training or certification is required. This can make your search for great cosmetic dentistry even harder.

I’m Dr. James DeFinnis, a general and cosmetic dentist in Trucksville, PA. I serve patients from Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and surrounding areas. As a dentist, I know that my patients trust their health, appearance, and quality of life to me. I consider that trust a big responsibility!

To make certain that I meet and exceed my patients’ expectations, I regularly invest in continuing education. Like technology and medicine, dental science is in a state of constant evolution. To stay in front of the curve, I attend many continuing education courses and seminars each year. By participating in my local Spear Study Club, I stay in touch with like-minded peers, professionals in the dental industry who prioritize education, patient satisfaction, and clinical excellence. Spear Education is a leading institution in postgraduate dental education. Members of the Spear Study Club have completed the Spear Mastery Continuum for esthetic and restorative dentistry. Club members meet regularly to discuss new innovations and developments in all facets of clinical dentistry, including cosmetic, restorative, prosthetic, sedation, and specialty care.

In addition to ongoing education and study, my experience in cosmetic dental makeovers is evident in the before-and-after photos on my website. Since opening Back Mountain Dental in 2000, I’ve provided porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, cosmetic bonding, and white fillings and crowns, as well as replacement teeth, root canal therapy, and periodontal (gum) procedures. My patients return to me year after year, and they refer their friends, because the dental work they receive at Back Mountain Dental is beautiful and durable. Their smiles endure for years because I will only cosmetically enhance a smile if the teeth, gums, occlusion, and jaw joints are in optimal health. Building a new smile on a strong foundation is essential to success.

So education and experience are very important factors in finding a great cosmetic dentist. I also believe that you need to feel emotionally secure and comfortable in your cosmetic dentist’s office. My team and I dedicate ourselves daily to creating an atmosphere in which our patients feel welcome and appreciated. For fearful patients, I offer various levels of sedation dentistry to ensure comfort and peace of mind during procedures. If you do not feel comfortable at your dentist’s office, you’ve chosen the wrong dentist!

I want to invite you to explore this blog, my website, and schedule a time to talk with me, tour my office, and meet the Back Mountain Team. Challenge us with your questions; share your concerns with us. Put us to the test to determine if I’m the best cosmetic dentist for you!
