The Worst Foods & Beverages for Teeth Stains

From whitening toothpaste to professional teeth whitening, modern teeth bleaching systems are extremely popular. If you have stained, yellowed, or otherwise dingy teeth, whitening can make your smile, and your overall image, appear 10 years younger. To keep your smile white, you can rely on teeth whitening systems, but you might also consider limiting your intake of the worst staining foods and beverages, including*:

  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Beets
  • Black coffee
  • Blueberries
  • Cola
  • Cranberry juice
  • Curry
  • Popsicles
  • Red wine
  • Tea
  • Tomato sauce

(Oddly enough, strawberries are actually good for whitening teeth!)

Some stains, like those caused by tetracycline medications and fluorosis, are not greatly reduced by even the strongest teeth whitening products. For permanently stained teeth, I recommend cosmetic bonding or porcelain veneers. These cosmetic dentistry procedures cover stains while creating a natural and stain-resistant smile.
